2015_16

Another year has come and gone. 2015 was filled with many challenges and accomplishments. I completed 26 races total: two half marathons, four 10Ks, one 7K, two 4 milers, eight 5Ks, and five 2 milers. I managed to pull off six 1st place overall wins. No personal records this year but hopefully 2016 brings me luck.

Here are my top 5 moments of 2015:

1. Chilly Chase Half Marathon

My 10th half marathon took me to gorgeous Vancouver, Canada in January. We were in the area for my husband’s 30th birthday ski trip so I figured I would get a race in. It was by far the most beautiful and scenic race I have ever completed. Since it was a different country I guess it counted as my first “international” race.

2. Stennis Space Center Half Marathon

I have always wanted to try this race so a few days before I signed up. Probably not the smartest move considering I had not been training for a half marathon. Even though it was November the weather was not on my side with temperatures in the 70s. Nevertheless I posted my third best half time 1:56:57.

3. 2015 Crescent City Classic

The CCC is one of my favorite races of the year. Cool temps helped me run 49:30 for the 10K. I was about a minute off from last year’s PR but I still placed in the top 500 females in 235th place. Good enough for another winner poster.

4. Tchoupitoulas Barathon

Some would argue that this does not count as a race and they are right…..it is so much better! My best friend and I picked up where we left off when we last did this race together in 2007. 6 miles, 6 bars, 6 beers was the name of the game. We were overachievers and had more than the required 6 beers and a ton of fun.

5. Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run

I have been working with the Special Olympics since 2010. This year I had the honor of moving the race to my patrol area and planning the entire event. Together with my department, Mandeville Police, and The St. Tammany Sheriff’s Office, Covington Police, Louisiana State Troopers, and Louisiana Probation and Parole we ran 2.5 miles and raised thousands of dollars for the Louisiana Special Olympic athletes.

Here are my 2016 goals:

1. Run 5 Half Marathons (I am already signed up for the NYRR Half in NY in January and the Our Lady of the Lake Half in March…..3 more to go!)

2. PR (any distance will do!)

3. Celebrate my 20th anniversary of distance running in August with something fun
