Strawberry Strut 10K

I headed to Ponchatoula Sunday morning for the 30th Anniversary Strawberry Strut 10K held during the Strawberry Festival. This was the first year I have ever done this race. The race was put on by the Ponchatoula Jaycees running club.

The route took us through the fairgrounds, a neighborhood, the service road by I-55, Highway 22 by more of the fairgrounds, then we ran adjacent to the historic railroad, finishing back through the fairgrounds. It was windy and hot and running past all of the fried food booths while they were cooking did not make it an easy race. I started off strong with a 7:17 pace but slowed down after running into a 20mph headwind for a mile next to the interstate.

I finished 4th overall, 2nd in the 30-39 age group with a time of 51:30. I was less that impressed with my time but heat was too much.

The awards ceremony was held by the main stage inside the Strawberry Festival. The overall winners got trophies and the age group winners got custom medals presented by the festival king and queen.
