St. Joseph’s 5K

Saturday morning was a big race day in the metropolitan area. There were no shortage of events to choose from. I chose to stay local and sign up for a race that was about a twenty minute drive from my house: The St. Joseph’s 5K.

The 5K was held on the campus of St. Joseph’s Catholic School in Ponchatoula, LA. The race was held in conjunction with the school’s fair. The kids 1 mile run began at 8:30am. All 1 mile participants received medals. The 5K followed at 9:00am.

Perfectly Fit Sports was on hand to conduct registration and man the course.

The 5K course took runners around downtown Ponchatoula, into the surrounding neighborhoods, and finished on the school campus.

This was my first 5K in months so I was not sure what pace I would run. I started out trying to keep up with the lead male runners. I kept a sub seven minute pace for the first half mile then slowed down to 7:12 to complete mile 1.

I was no longer running with the lead pack for mile 2 but I managed to still be in first for the females. I slowed down to a 7:30 pace to enter mile 3.

I kept my 7:30 pace for the final mile and finished in 22:32, good for first female.

I still have work to do to improve my pace and speed, but I was happy with my time.

The overall winners received trophies and the age group winners received medals. Freeze pops and water were provided for the runners.

Next up for me is the Nun Run, yes you read that right, tomorrow morning in Ponchatoula, LA.
